When traveling to Mexico, you must complete an immigration form/tourist card. You will need your contact & passport information, hotel address (or wherever you are staying), and your flight details to load onto this form.  Good news, you can now complete your Mexico Tourist Card online. So save a few trees and get a jump on your paperwork.

What Is A Tourist Card

The Mexico Tourist Card is a an immigration form that documents a foreign travelers' purpose for visiting Mexico. Each person (even kids), is required to have their own form. Regardless of the state you are visiting, Cancun, Los Cabos, Mexico City, Ixtapa, or Riviera Maya, you will require a tourist card.

The Tourist Card serves dual purposes as an entry and exit form. Once you go thru immigration an officer will stamp your passport and both forms, while keeping half of the form (the Entry Form), and returning the other half (the Exit Form). You must carry the exit form with you at all times while you are in Mexico. Additionally, you cannot leave the country without your Exit Form. For additional information check out the FAQ page at

I Lost My Tourist Card - So Now What?

You cannot leave Mexico without an Exit Form. If you lose your card you are not required to spend the rest of your days in Mexico. You can purchase a replacement Exit Form for about $40 US dollars at the airport. The process is fairly simple, takes about 10 minutes in off peak times, but can take longer depending on the crowds.

The main takeaway here is to secure your replacement card BEFORE you check in for your return flight. Give yourself enough time so you aren't rushing, and know that you will be denied boarding if you don't have that card.
